TODAY’S FORECAST

A stronger cold front will move through today. It will bring us a chance for isolated strong to severe storms. The best timing is from 10am-3pm, but the rain will linger through the evening commute. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a level 1, marginal risk, for severe storms today across the state of Tennessee.
Damaging wind is the main threat. However, there is some spin in the atmosphere along the Cumberland Plateau late this morning into the early afternoon. That would be the best timing if we were to see a tornado spin up. Heavy rain will accompany these storms, but bringing us much needed rain in a drought stricken area. Rainfall amounts through 7pm will be 1/4″ to over an inch in some locations. The storm does weaken as it moves from west along the Plateau east to the Smoky Mountains.
Highs will be reached early, likely around noon today. We’ll top out in the mid to upper 60s, but fall to the 50s through the evening rush hour.

THE REST OF THE STORY

Another cold front will swing through the area on Wednesday. That will increase our rain chances after the lunch hour on Wednesday. Behind this next front, colder and drier air settles back in. That will drop our afternoon highs back to the 30s and low 40s. But, at least it will be abundantly sunny. Another disturbance will race through Saturday night into Sunday, bringing a chance for light snow in the mountains of East Tennessee and North Carolina.
