THE BIG STORY
Our ridge of high pressure that has brought us the warmer and above average weather, breaks down as a trough heads our way That will scoop up moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and pull it our way. That brings us the much needed rain. It will also bring us colder air beginning Wednesday and lasting through the week.

THE REST OF THE STORY
We will dry out as we head into our Wednesday and Thursday. Colder air races in Wednesday afternoon and evening. That will bring our temperatures down for the rest of the week and into the weekend. But, trough digs in as we round out the week. That will bring another shot of energy to the area. This colder air combined with some limited moisture, light snow is expected around East Tennessee. The best locations will be the higher elevations of the Cumberland Plateau and the Smoky Mountains. Snowfall totals will likely come out tomorrow.
As the colder, drier air races in, the wind will pick up. Expect a couple of gusty days with Wednesday and Thursday being the windiest.
A LOOK AHEAD
We will warm toward the end of the 7 day forecast, but as mentioned above, colder air is heading our way next week. The Climate Prediction Center has already pinpointed that on their 8-14 day outlook. With next weeks storm, we look to see elevated precipitation, but behind it, very dry air settles in, which means a drier pattern sets up shop.
