THE BIG STORY
Tumbling temperatures today as a cold front swings to our southeast. There’s another disturbance on Thursday night into Friday. That will bring another round of colder air and energy. Combine the two of these and it looks like snow will be developing. Right now it looks like the classic horseshoe, the higher elevations of East Tennessee.

TODAY’S FORECAST
Big changes take effect today.
The cold front swings to our southeast.
We start with overcast skies with dreary and damp conditions. But, there will be much drier air that will move in after Noon today. That will drop our temperatures through the afternoon with an early high temperature between 10am and 2pm.
This drier air will bring tons of sunshine this afternoon, but also bring in the wind. Expect winds to gust to 20-30 mph in the valley and higher wind gusts in the mountains, up to 40 mph.
Grab the jackets and sunglasses if you’re going to be out and about early this evening.
ENJOY THE DAY!
BUT IT DOESN’T STOP THERE

THE REST OF THE STORY
Wow… what a pattern change!
This colder air mass will stick for the rest of the workweek. Highs will be in the 40s with afternoon wind chills in the 30s. Lows will dip to the 20s and low 30s. We will see our first bout of frost. We probably won’t see a ton of frost Thursday morning due to the fact that there will be a 10° temperature spread between the morning lows and the dew points. But the low lying, sheltered areas will likely see frost.
Thursday will be sunny and chilly. Againm wind chills will likely be in the 30s and low 40s during the afternoon as the wind will stick with us Thursday.
Thursday night into Friday, another disturbance rolls through. This will bring us another round of colder air, plus a little available moisture will spark off snow showers. This will all start late Thursday in Upper East Tennessee. But fill in for the area through the overnight hours. We may wake up to some flurries in the valley, but no accumulating snow is expected in the valley. However, the Smoky Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau will see a light dusting to up to 3″-5″ across the highest peask of the Smokies.
Therefore, the National Weather Service has already issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY from Thursday evening through Friday morning.
A LOOK AHEAD
We will warm toward the end of the 7 day forecast, but as mentioned above, colder air is heading our way next week. The Climate Prediction Center has already pinpointed that on their 8-14 day outlook. With next weeks storm, we look to see elevated precipitation, but behind it, very dry air settles in, which means a drier pattern sets up shop.
