THE BIG STORY
Near record high temperatures are expected once again today as a ridge of high pressure dominates the southeastern US. A trough to our west will weaken, but slowly slide our way. That will tighten the pressure gradient, bringing in a bit of a breeze, but also help to move a cold front our way. That will increase our chances for rain today and tomorrow. Into the weekend, we’ll be watching Hurricane Rafeal as it moves into the Gulf of Mexico. Does this storm bring us elevated rain chances this weekend? Possibly.

TODAY’S FORECAST
It’s another mild start to the day with a mix of sun and clouds. The clouds will be on the increase as a cold front approaches the area. This will also increase the wind a bit this afternoon, but nothing too crazy. With the southerly flow to the atmosphere, along with the clouds, there is a chance for a few passing light showers. It won’t add up to much. By the end of the night, we’ll see less than 1/4″ of rainfall, but not for everyone.
As I mentioned, we’ll have near record high temperatures today.
Today’s records:
Knoxville – 80 (2022)
Tri-Cities – 84 (2022)
Chattanooga 81 (2015)
This warm and above average weather makes for some perfect evenings around town.
ENJOY THE DAY!

THE REST OF THE STORY
Our cold front will move through on Thursday. That will bring another chance for a few passing showers, albeit light. We should dry out on Friday with increasing chances for rain this weekend. At this point, I think we trend wetter on Sunday. But, it’s all dependent on Hurricane Rafeal and where this storm goes. Based on the latest model guidance, the storm may linger in the Gulf of Mexico. But, if the storm gets picked up by the weekend trough, then we’ll get a little more.
Stay tuned!
A LOOK AHEAD
As mentioned above, we are looking at high pressure and above average temperatures as we round out October and start November! While the Climate Prediction Center has added a small probability of an increase in the rain chances over the next 6-10 and 8-14 days out. However, based on the latest model guidance, rainfall will begin to increase this week and the weekend.
We definitely need the rain!
