THE BIG STORY
A nice little shot of colder air has arrived. This morning we started off in the 30s and 40s. But, we have another shot of energy swinging our way today. That will bring in the clouds and a chance for light rain, plus some mountain snow before exiting to our southeast.

TODAY’S FORECAST
So, the coldest air of the season has arrived. After highs in the 60s on Monday, today we will only warm to the 50s and low 60s. But, because we have a disturbance moving our way, expect mostly cloudy to overcast skies today. We will also see a few spotty showers in the afternoon. It won’t add up to much today, but dont’ be surprised if you get one. The wind will pick up a bit this afternoon as well with the approaching upper wave. After 7pm tonight, the colder air aloft swings in allowing our mountain temperatures to dip to the low 30s. That will switch the rain to light snow along the highest peaks of the Smokies. This disturbance and the snow/rain machine will fade into the early morning hours of Wednesday.
BUT IT DOESN’T STOP THERE

THE REST OF THE STORY
As this next shot of energy moves through this afternoon and overnight tonight, enough available moisture will continue to get wrung out of the atmosphere in the form of light snow in the mountains above 4,000 feet. We could see up to an inch or so along the spine of the Appalachian Mountains.
This will also bring another pocket of colder air to the area. That means, morning lows will dip to the low to mid 30s with widespread frost. And high temperatures will only climb to the 50s. So yeah, a chilly couple of days ahead.
But, heading into the weekend, another ridge of high pressure builds in, allowing our afternoon high temperatures to reach back to those seasonal averages, low to mid 70s.

A LOOK AHEAD
We are in for a nice dry weather pattern this week. But, per the Climate Prediction Center, we are going to be on the drier side through the middle of the month. Which, of course, is par for the course for the month of October. Plus, we end the 7 day stretch on the colder than average side, but a ridge of warmer high pressure will start to nudge our way over the next two weeks.
