TROPICAL NEWS

Hurricane Milton has weakened back to a Category 4.

We are now, as of this post, less than 12-15 hours away from making landfall in western Florida. Per the latest guidance, it could make landfall as a Category 3 or 4, but only by a few miles per hour.

The poin is, this is a very dangerous and destructive storm for Florida. It may actually be the strongest storm for this part of Florida in modern times.

The storm surge could be up to 12-15 feet south of the eye of the hurricane.

TODAY’S FORECAST

Back here at home, we are experiencing some amazing fall weather. High pressure continues to build in which will allow the skies to be sunny. Combine that with the dry and cool air in place, forecast highs will be in the low to mid & upper 70s. A very average day for this time of the year.
This is the kind of weather which makes it so comfortable to be outdoors.
Since it’s Fall Break for so many, it’s perfect to attend the pumpkin patches and corn mazes.

THE REST OF THE STORY

The rest of the week we will gradually increase our forecast high temperatures, especially on Sunday. Nothing too hot, but we warm out ahead of a cold front on Sunday/Monday timeframe.
This will also increase the dew points just a little bit as well.
But, this cold front doesn’t bring us much in the way of rainfall, unfortunately.
What it will do is bring us cooler and drier air heading into next week as a trough digs into the southeastern United States.

A LOOK AHEAD

We are in for a nice dry weather pattern this week. But, per the Climate Prediction Center, we are going to be on the drier side through the middle of the month. Which, of course, is par for the course for the month of October.

A LOOK BACK

It’s amazing how fast a drought can disapprear, but it’s also amazing what Mother Nature can do to get there.
We continue to have a moderate drought in the southern valley, as expected. The just didn’t get the rain that Upper East Tennessee received. With October being the driest month of the year, this drought will likely expand over the next few weeks. Check back in.
