THE BIG STORY

Today is the day the cold front moves our way. This cold front will bring big changes beginning Monday and lasting through the week.

I will post a lot more on social media. Please be sure to like and follow @MikeWitcherTV on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Along with @ETNweather on Facebook.

TODAY’S FORECAST

Once again this morning started off fairly average with morning temps in the 40s & 50s.
It will be sunny and gusty today as a cold front moves into the area. The wind out ahead of it will be out of the southwest 10-20 mph, but gusting up to 30 mph. Behind the front, the wind will shift to the northwest, ushering in drier and colder weather. More on that in a minute.
But, let’s talk about the chance for evening and early overnight storms. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a level one risk for isolated strong to severe storms.  Now, I’m not talking about spring type of severe weather, but we have a lot of cold air aloft moving in. This will help create instibility and the possiblity of hail out of any of the storms. But, with the energy in the atmosphere, we could see a few storms produce strong gusty winds.
Something to keep an eye on.

BUT IT DOESN’T STOP THERE

THE REST OF THE STORY

Now let’s move on and talk about the colder weather heading our way behind tonight’s cold front.

This front will usher in drier and cooler air for our Monday and Tuesday. High temperatures will be in the 50s and low 60s, with lows in the 30s and 40s.
However, there is another shot of energy moving around the base of the trough Tuesday into Wednesday. This will bring us a colder shot of air and much drier air. Which in turn will lead to lows in the 20s and low 30s Wednesday and Thursday mornings. But, it also may bring a chance for a few flurries along the highest peaks of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. No, there won’t be a lot, if it happens at all. We know the cold air will be in placae, but we just won’t have a lot of moisture. And… it’s too early in the season for much to accumulate. However, we’re not far from more of this happening.

A LOOK AHEAD

We are in for a nice dry weather pattern this week. But, per the Climate Prediction Center, we are going to be on the drier side through the middle of the month. Which, of course, is par for the course for the month of October. Plus, we end the 7 day stretch on the colder than average side, but a ridge of warmer high pressure will start to nudge our way over the next two weeks.

A LOOK BACK

As expected, the severe drought expanded just a little stretching southward into Rhea & Meiggs Counties.
