TROPICAL NEWS

Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3, major hurricane, at 8:30pm near Siesta Key, close to Sarasota, Florida. Sustained winds were cranking around 120 mph.

Milton will continue to move into the Atlantic Ocean and decrease in intensity, plus just be a fish storm from here.

TODAY’S FORECAST

Another beautiful day is on tap as a cool ridge of high pressure continues to dominate the weather pattern. That means we start with morning low temperatures in the 40s and 50s. Lunch time temps will climb to the 60s and low 70s with high temperatures reaching the mid to upper 70s.
The wind will be with us again today, up to 10-15 mph. A nice, pleasant fall breeze.
If you have evening plans, it will continue to be perfect as temperatures fall back to the mid 60s by 8pm.
That will make for some perfect weather for outdoor activities.

BUT IT DOESN’T STOP THERE

THE REST OF THE STORY

That ridge of high pressure will slowly drift toward the Gulf of Mexico as a Canadian trough begins to dig our way.

Out ahead of the cold front, temperatures will continue to gradually warm. Sunday will be the warmest day with highs back into the low 80s.

But, the cold front swings through Sunday into Monday. It’s a moisture starved cold front, so don’t expect much in the way of rain, if any at all.

What it will do  is bring us another shot of cooler and drier air. That means next week’s highs will fall to the 50s and low 60s and morning lows will be in the 30s and 40s.

This might be our first chance for frost around East Tennessee. The best locations will be the mountains, of course, along with the Cumberland Plateau and Upper East Tennessee, close to the Tri-Cities area.

A LOOK AHEAD

We are in for a nice dry weather pattern this week. But, per the Climate Prediction Center, we are going to be on the drier side through the middle of the month. Which, of course, is par for the course for the month of October. Plus, we end the 7 day stretch on the colder than average side, but a ridge of warmer high pressure will start to nudge our way over the next two weeks.

A LOOK BACK

It’s amazing how fast a drought can disapprear, but it’s also amazing what Mother Nature can do to get there.
We continue to have a moderate drought in the southern valley, as expected. The just didn’t get the rain that Upper East Tennessee received. With October being the driest month of the year, this drought will likely expand over the next few weeks. Check back in.
