TODAY’S FORECAST
Here we go!
We’ve been talking about this for the past few days, and today is the very beginning of a 3 day heavy rain event.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a level 1, marginal, risk for severe storms along the mountain counties. This will be through about noon when we have the highest instibility. After that, we lose the instibility, but the rain will fill in, moving from south to north. Wherever this axis of rain sets up, expect the rain to be continuous, leading the possibility of flooding. Because of all this rain, the Weather Prediction Center has issued a level 1, 2 & 3 for East Tennessee. The level 3 is located in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee & North Carolina. So, if you have plans to be in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, please be safe and use caution and common sense.
And all of this is why the National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WATCH through Thursday in the Valley and through Friday for the mountains.
Just today we could see up to 1-2″ of rainfall.
Becasuse of the clouds and the rain, forecast high temperatures will remain average for this time of the year. We’re looking at upper 70s to low 80s.

A LOOK BACK
While we all know we need the rain, due to the ongoing drought that has expanded week after week. Some locations, like Chattanooga are running 18 percent of normal over the past 30 days. But again, while this is likely to be some drought busting rain, it will likely lead to flooding concerns.
