Happy Sunday, East Tennessee!
As your local meteorologist, I’m dropping the latest weather update for Sunday, July 6, 2025. It’s the last day of the 4th of July weekend, and guess what? We’re in for another awesome day with more of the same good stuff. This easy-to-get blog covers today’s weather for Knoxville, Chattanooga, and the Great Smoky Mountains, plus a look at the week ahead. Let’s dive in and enjoy it!

Sunday: A Warm Start, Hot Afternoon, and Maybe a Storm
We’re kicking off the day a bit warmer than yesterday, with temps in the 60s and 70s under clear skies and just a touch of fog. It’ll heat up fast, hitting the upper 80s by lunchtime and climbing to the low 90s later. The dew points are creeping up today as some low-level moisture rolls in, and that does a couple of things. First, it bumps the heat index up to the mid to upper 90s, so it’s another scorcher. Second, it might spark an afternoon storm or two, with the best shot along the Cumberland Plateau and Smoky Mountains. Aside from that, it’s another perfect day for the pool or lake—go have a blast!

Monday and Tuesday: More Heat with a Few Storms
Getting back into the workweek on Monday, the weather doesn’t budge much. We might see some scattered afternoon storms, mostly popping up in the mountains and along the plateau. Highs will reach the low 90s, with the heat index sitting in the upper 90s. Tuesday’s pretty much a repeat—same highs in the low 90s, same warm feel. It’s hot, but manageable if you play it smart.

Wednesday: Rain Chances Start to Rise
Come Wednesday, July 9, we’ll see the first hints of more rain chances. Nothing too crazy, just a step up in coverage for some much-needed showers. My grass is looking dry and brown, so I bet you’re ready for a good soak too! It won’t be a total washout, but it’s a sign things are shifting.

Thursday: Showers Pick Up a Bit
On Thursday, July 10, those shower chances grow a little more. We’re still not looking at anything wild, but the rain will spread out a bit more across East Tennessee. It’s that slow buildup of moisture we’ve been waiting for to green things up—keep your fingers crossed!

Friday: The Best Shot for Much Needed Rain
Friday, July 11, brings the strongest chance for rain yet. A little weather wave might roll through, making it our best day to snag that much-needed rainfall—maybe around half an inch. It won’t be a flood, but it’ll help our parched ground. I’ll keep an eye on it and let you know.

Next Weekend: Hanging on to the Chance for Rain
Heading into the weekend—Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13—the rain could stick around. It’s still up in the air, but we might see some showers or storms, nothing too organized. It depends on how things play out, so I’ll update you as we go.

ABOVE AND BEYOND THE 7 DAY FORECAST

Looking past the 7 Day Forecast, the Climate Prediction Center has issues a forecast based on probabilities.
These maps don’t show you how far above or below, but rather an idea of how strong the signal is.

Why This Weather Matters
Today’s warm start turns into that classic July heat, thanks to the moisture sneaking in. The steady warmth keeps the weekend solid, but next week’s rain hints at a shift to wetter days. For Knoxville folks, Chattanooga outdoor lovers, and Smoky Mountain visitors, this helps you plan and stay safe.
