WARM & WINDY WITH HIGH FIRE DANGER

We are in store for another beautiful day around East Tennessee! We start with morning temperatures in the 30s, 40s and some 50s as well. It all depends on if you had any wind or not through the overnight hours. But, we all warm nicely through the day. Lunch time temps are in the 60s with forecast highs in the mid to upper 70s.  With that said, as our next cold front approaches, the wind will increase through the afternoon and into the early evening hours. The National Weather Service has issed a WIND ADVISORY for most of the area running through 11pm tonight. Now you combine that wind with low relative humidity and we will elevate our fire danger to the area. The National Weather Service has issed a SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT and a RED FLAG WARNING. Please don’t burn today!
Now for you moms and dads taking kids to practice and outdoor events tonight, enjoy it. It will be pleasant with temperatures in the 70s from 6pm to 8pm.
Have a great day!
If you are looking for something to do with the kiddos today, go grab a kite and enjoy the wind.

OUR NEXT COLD FRONT MOVES IN TONIGHT

We have another cold front arriving today. That’s why the wind will increase out of the southwest, helping to warm us up. Enjoy it because behind the front, cooler air races back in.
So, the cold front will bring increasing clouds today with inreasing light rain after sundown and through the overnight hours. It is relatively moisture starved. I’m thinking we get about a 1/4″ of rainfall by sunrise Thursday. So, not a lot of rain. However, we will see colder air moving in. Thursday starts off with temps in the 40s and 50s, but with cold air advection, we stay fairly steady in the 40s all day long. We will likely see some early morning sunshine before the back side of the low sweeps clouds back into the area. As the clouds move back in and temps drop to the 30s in the mountains, snow will be developing. As of now there is not a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY, but I’m thinking we could see 2″-4″ or more along the highest peaks of the Smokies. In the valley we will likely see some scattered light rain through the day on Thursday.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE WEEKEND

As we head into the weekend, the weather seems to play well. There will be a disturbance that will swing across the Ohio Valley, which may bring a few light showers north of I-40, but I’m not expecting much. Then the skies will become partly cloudy and we stay dry and seasonal. On Sunday I’ll be tracking another cold front. That will increase the wind and clouds on Sunday. I am anticipating dry weather, for the most part, until after sundown. That’s when another cold front swings through. We may have a few rumbles of thunder with some instability present, mainly in the southern valley. We’ll see about 1/4″ to 1/2″ of rainfall into Monday morning.
Make sure to check back in as we get closer.
