FLOOD AND FLASH FLOOD CONCERNS
So far this week we have seen anywhere from 2″-4″ or more around East Tennessee. This has now saturated the ground. With more rain on the way as a strong cold front swings through tonight, flooding and flash flooding concerns increase. The Weather Prediction Center has issed a level 1 and 2 for flooding issues. The National Weather Service has issed a FLOOD WATCH until noon on Sunday. The heaviest rain will likely fall along the Cumberland Plateau and the Tennessee/Kentucky border. This is where we will see the greatest risk for flooding.

SEVERE WEATHER RISK
The Storm Prediction Center has the western valley and the Cumberland Plateau under a level 1 risk for severe storms. That means it will be isolated in nature. The greatest risk is for damaging wind gusts, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
The best timing is anytime after 10pm!
Heavy rain will accompany this cold front.

THE WIND WILL BE CRANKING
The National Weather Service has also issued a WIND ADVISORY & A HIGH WIND WARNING for East Tennessee. A mountain wave event will set up as a strong area of low pressure moves through. The wind in the mountains could be gusting to 60 mph and in the valley up to 45 mph.
The strong wind will crank along the leading edge of the cold front anytime after 10pm.

TODAY’S FORECAST
It’s going to be a warm and breezy day today, but the wind will really pick up through the evening and overnight hours. We stay mostly cloudy, but the rain won’t last all day long. We should be drier for most areas this afternoon. Highs climb to the upper 50s to low to mid 60s. This is the warm before the storm as temperatures will drop on Sunday.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Behind tonight’s cold front, temperatures will tank on Sunday and through next week. We have another storm that is possible Tuesday and Wedneday of next week. That will bring a chance for snow around East Tennessee and the Southeastern United States.
Make sure to check back in.

ABOVE AND BEYOND THE 7 DAY FORECAST
Looking past the 7 Day Forecast, the Climate Prediction Center has strong signals of below average temperatures with the possibility of above average precipitation.
