TODAY’S FORECAST
Have a great Friday!
Today we are tracking a short wave trough, or better known as a weak disturbance, as it moves through. This piece of energy doesn’t have a lot of moisure with it, but enough to produce some light snow showers around East Tennessee. The best chance for accumulating snow will be along the Cumberland Plateau and the Smoky Mountains. These type of systems move in and move out quickly and don’t typically cause much trouble.
Highs reach the upper 30s to low 40s early in the afternoon and then drop through the evening hours.
Have a great day and stay warm!
But read on as there is another storm arriving on Sunday that could bring us a chance for some light icing, as in FREEZING RAIN!
THE REST OF THE STORY
Okay, so today’s wave of energy will slide off to our east through the day today. Behind it, colder Canadian air settles in for the weekend.
Let’s say this sets the stage for what could happen on Sunday.
So as our storm approaches the area, we’ll see increasing clouds late Saturday. Sunday morning will start off with some light precipitation. From sunrise through about Noon or so, we will have the chance for light icing, mainly along the Cumberland Plateau, the northern valley and Upper East Tennessee. That’s where the air will stay the coldest, the longest. As we progress through the day, temperatures will be slow to warm. We actually will continue to warm until the cold front moves through, which could be anytime after 7pm. So, we’ll have an afternoon temperature in the low 30s, but should warm to near 40 or so just before the front passes through. With the leading edge of the cold front, a line of showers will move through.
So again, we could start off with a wintry mess, but will transition to all rain through the day.
Plus, it’s Sunday, so the impact goes way down.
